Improve Your Self Confidence

Apr 4, 2017
“Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit.”
E.E. Cummings

Confidence can be a bit of a tricky pickle in this day in age, you don’t want to have too much for fear of being cocky but nor do you want to have too little either. This post is for those who suffer from the latter affliction so, read on for some tips on gaining confidence so you can live your life to it’s utmost.

Be Cautious Around Negative Nancy’s

You may or may not know it but, those around you might be drowning you in the negative vibes more regularly than you think. This can be either subtle or obvious, sometimes it’s hard to differentiate. People that are unsupportive, emotionally draining, jealous, or are just all around toxic probably need to go. This might seem drastic so trial it out. Stop making an effort to hang out with those that don’t make you feel good and see what effect that has on you.

Instead of giving them the chop altogether, it might be better (and less cruel) just to stop seeing them as often. Everyone has good and bad sides, hopefully your new positive self will give them a different perspective, who knows.

Practise Positive Affirmation

What on earth is this and how do I do it? Great question. A good place to start is writing down a list of negative things about yourself. I know this seems counter-productive but by starting with this step you can turn the negatives into positives. Also, being able to identify your weaknesses is very courageous and bold. So, say you write down “I’m lazy”: this is fine, it’s a productive step to enabling the part of yourself that isn’t lazy. It’s kind of like setting a goal for the future.

Another angle you could take is to: make two columns, one for the positive traits other people have identified with you, and positive traits you associate with yourself. Then, spend five minutes each day speaking these lists out loud to yourself.

Make a List of Everything You’re Grateful For

It’s oh-so easy to lose sight of what you have to be grateful for in life. Chances are, if you have access to this blog then you’re living in a first world country so, in the scheme of things, you have it pretty good.

Write down absolutely everything you have in your life to be thankful for, you have friends and family? Great. Clean water? Awesome. Electricity? Cool. Food and clothes on your back? Even better. Read over this list every time you have doubt in your mind about your life. This will help boost your confidence because it will make you happy and you’ll feel appreciation and the urge to cherish and appreciate every minute of your day, even when you’re not feeling so hot. Smiling is one of the best ways to improve your confidence, so, get happy!

So, that’s it. We’ve kept this list short and sweet. Hopefully this list will help you feel a little more confident in your day to day. It’s important to remember that you and your life are great so, put a smile on your dial and get in the sunshine.
